Understanding cognitive behavioral therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy addresses how thoughts contribute to or often create behaviors. This evidence-based modality demonstrates how the act of eliciting control over one’s thoughts can in effect change that individual’s behavior. The therapy explores and uncovers negative thought patterns and incorporates tools to shift one’s mindset. As an individual learns to develop more positive and conscientious ways of thinking, many negative behavioral patterns may dissipate.

The therapy creates a fundamental understanding of what mental processes create specific behaviors and offers tools to deconstruct the thoughts that created them, in effect changing behavior.
